Idaburg, Idaplatz, Zurich

2008
An upperclass restaurant in Zurich with white linens. Food was good but not exciting. You notice on the menu that the side dishes are seasonal – asparagus, baerlauch, horseradish and morels. Service was okay but nothing spectacular. We started off with a Tuna Sashimi with watercress and a Saibling tartare. I’m always astonished at the availability of Japanese food (mainly based on fishes from the sea) in a landlocked country such as Switzerland. Rabbit thighs with Knoedel and a Horseradish Risotto with asparagus were what I thought an excellent take of fresh and local produce. A local swiss celebrity was sitting next to us – the one which comments the Fasnacht of Basel – smoking one cigarette after the other. One of the big perks in Zurich – you can still smoke in almost all the restaurants.
Gin & Tonic, Glass of Prosecco, 2x appetizers, 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 espressos, 1l soda water, 0.5l (Zweigelt) wine = 218 swiss francs (~210 USD). Rating – decent business and first date place – impressing for german immigrants – okay for locals.
