Restaurant Florhof, Florhofgasse 4, Zurich

Now romantic hotel sounds neither tough nor avantgarde enough for me to try, but with ever diminishing options to try in Zurich, I need to be bolder. The Florhof is situated in a surprisingly quaint corner next to the Kunsthaus and even sports a lovely terrace for sunny days. The amuse bouche wasn’t up my alley, it was a prosecco foam with a bit of cucumber something on the bottom.
My first real course was a lovely Vichysoisse, served with some delightful herbs. I loved taste and texture. The restaurant was starting to please me and continued strongly. I even ordered a dish from the vegetarian menu, which was a Royale of Chanterelles paired with some spring onions. I liked how the powder (unknown what it was) added bursts of crunchy texture to otherwise soft, yet tasty dish. I finished with another very tasty dish, some perfectly cook lamb paired with simply perfect vegetables. I didn’t recognized the Kohlrabi at first, but I really had to give kudos to the way they were prepaired. I also valued the small serving of extra sauce that made it my way. Often the meat is the star but the Florhof really makes vegetables shine as well, in a way which is way above your normal and often boring vegetarian place. Clearly a place I enjoyed, great for a more formal dinner but also slightly pricey.
On another note, I always read the lonely hearts sections in the renowed newspapers I bring to dinner. This time I found a gem in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung a two liner literally saying – “German baroness, 70yrs, broke without kin, would like to marry”. If you’re looking for a date with royalty please write to chiffre ZS1903565, I’m assuming she won’t be pressuring you to have kids.
