Facil, Potsdamer Strasse, Berlin

The Facil caught my eye for two reasons, the pictures of the food and dining room looked beautiful. It radiated an aura of serious and professional dining. The pictures did not disappoint, even a small stool was produced to rest my newspapers on, so it wouldn’t clutter the table. There were no glaring disappointments, but the aura it projected wasn’t quite met by the quality of the food. A simple example is the first dish of the appetizers, a chobb (I am assuming that’s supposed to be chop) salad, sturgeon and a bean emulsion. The individual salad elements and the bean emulsion where nice and carefully selected, but the sturgeon was slightly chewy. The trout in combination with the vanilla worked suprisingly well, it accompanied each other nicely. One course was exchanged from the regular menu and a yellow beet dish was selected instead. This was a very unelegant dish. Not only was it too large, it had huge chunks of yellow beet with a rather indifferent falafel. There was no class, refinement nor care in this plate. Other dishes followed, which were okay for this type of establishment, but none truly remarkable.
As you can tell, the Facil did slightly disappoint. Looks can be deceiving but there were too many smallish flaws in the menu. The friandises where excellent and it was a very nice touch that they were served with a small box for you to take home. Also the wine list and the sommelier did not disappoint, they recomended quite a drinkable german white wine.
