Unnamed Columbian Cafe, Aemtlerstrasse, Zurich
Dec
2013
This is certainly a first, I don’t know the name of the restaurant I had lunch 2 hours ago. Located on Aemtlerstrasse, right next to the Plüsh Bar a new place sporting cuisine from Columbia has opened. Low key, but judging from the menu and the other people in the cafe it certainly looks real. Appetizer were some Empanadas with what is presumed to be a columbian sauce. The mouth feel of the pastry was slightly unpleasant and on the chewy side, the filling monotone and lacking salt.
Main course was Bandeja Palsa, which seems to be a staple of columbian cuisine. Many different items arranged on the same plate, mixing different starches, an egg, avocado, pork sausage and bacon as well as plaintains. Well it wasn’t a very nice plate of food. The beans & egg were overcooked, the sausage fatty, nothing was seasoned nicely, the only thing which was good was that the perfectly ripened avocado. Also the columbian soda pop, grape juice with fizz was pretty nice. There is one thing that can be said for this place, since it was running a few delivery orders in parallel as well. This seems to be a place which cooks just like in Colombia, the dishes do not feel adapted to Swiss tastebuds, I am assuing this is what people mean by “authentic”.
