Dal Nastro, Sihlporte, Zurich

I was very excited to go to the Dal Nastro restaurant, which opened in the former EPA building at the Sihlporte. It does a modern twist of italian cuisine and adds a conveyer belt at the bar. Similar to the Kaiten-Zushi restaurants in Japan, you can sit at the counter and watch small plates go by, those which pique your curiosity are the ones you grab. What was it like ? I’d love to present a detailed review of the experience but unfortunately we never got that far. One of the reasons of holding the torch of anonymous restaurant critiquing up high is to present authentic experiences to the very select crowd of connaisseurs frequenting Switzerlands’s oldest dining blog. Rest assured, authentic it was…

I had a reservation (confirmed by phone) at the bar for 19:30. When entering the establishment a rather snotty waiter tells me, this is my seat at a table at the window. When I said that’s not what I had asked for and confirmed on the phone he sneers at me and suggest that I can just reach over the guys sitting at the bar and grab dishes of the conveyer belt. I raised my eyebrows, said I think this is it for us and we’d be leaving. The little twerp raises his arms to his shoulders drops them with an exaggerated sigh and says literally – “Well if it’s really such a big problem for you I can see what I can do about a seat at the bar”. I had to chuckle and after pointing out how ridiculously unprofessional his behavior was I left the establishment, thinking “go rot in hell”.
