Cacio e Pepe is a restaurant which prides itself on bringing the cuisine of Rome to Zurich. The dining room is a tad too contemporary for my taste, but the food certainly didn’t disappoint. Since the restaurant was full, it seems that word travels rather quickly about this new establishment. A nice smokey Scarmoza with some lardo was a nice starter, followed by a very tasty Tonnrello Carbonara. Rich & creamy, nice sprinkle of black pepper and strong cheese thrown into the egg mixture made this my dish of the evening (even though I had ordered with variant with Zuchini flowers…) Main course was suckling pig, nice flavour and juicy with side orders that were okay, but nothing to get excited about.
Cacio e Pepe is a good, solid italian restaurant with slightly different appetizers and primi piattis than most other places. Small caveat is the weird service, one of the waiters was making weird jokes about that they’d run out of sparkling jokes and forgot certain elements we hard ordered (he did remember to come back and ask). Also when the owner walks up to say hi, one first thinks he’s a patron since his appearance is as casual as the diners. Overall a nice addition to Zurich’s dining scene.
