Huehnerhimmel, Forchstrasse, Zurich
Mar
2014
The newly opened Huehnerhimmel is located near the Kreuzplatz on the Forchstrasse. As the name suggests, they focus on formerly very happy chicken all sourced from Mägenwil. The appetizer was just too good to pass up, a salad with chicken, fruit and some cocktail sauce, it just feels so Swiss Avantgarde in the late 70ties. The salad was very tasty, with crunchy apples and clearly executed with care, while culinarywise it’s not up my alley, it was done with care.
For the main course we decide to stick to the program and chose some breaded and slightly fried chicken done Austrian style. It was excellent. Juice, nice & light batter which was fried but not drenched. Two nicely homemade sauces were served with it. Another nice touch where the excellent homemade fries, thin and with the skin on it from the original potatoes.
Huehnerhimmel is a good local eatery for the neighborhood, certainly beats many of the other places you find. If you like the comfy Swiss Beiz interior and are into poultry, this is the place to go to.
