Zum Fink, Josefstrasse, Zurich

2014
Zum Fink opened up a few days ago on the corner of Josef- and Quellenstrasse. A visit during lunch showed a pleasant surprise, the menu looked so good I was unsure what to choose. After some back and forth the sausages (Finkwürste Dreierlei Hauswürste) sounded great.
A nice looking wooden board, with three small sausages, sauces and potato gratin makes it our way. While I was happy with presentation and the idea, the sausages themselves weren’t great. You could clearly taste the individual chili, whisky and plum flavors, but they were one-dimensional in overall taste profile and fell flat. Also the meat was like a veal bratwurst, not just grinded but most likely prepared in a cutter which was way too fine. A sausage needs more coarse bits an pieces im my book and less fat.
The Zum Fink has potential but needs some growing to get all the details perfect. Certainly a hopeful neighborhood dining establishment and I’ll be happy to revisit in a couple of weeks.
