Filetstück, Uhlandstrasse, Berlin

2014
Having met Hans M a highly regarded colleague and connaisseur at a dinner party was very helpful in finding a lunch place for Berlin. On his suggestion I went to the Filetstück. After visiting the Story of Berlin (fascinating bunker, not very nicely exhibition otherwise) the restaurant was just around the corner. The interior is nice a clever combination of wood and tiling, with nice table cloths and cutlery. Unfortunatly during lunch, there’s a slighlty smaller menu. The style is regionally sourced meat done right with some molecular dishes. No complaints on the cured meat or the Freesisches Rind with a nice strong jus. Also the Bienenstich (transformed) is a great end to a meal since it piques the curiosity after a rather traditional meal. The only thing which was really offputting, was the Chef de Service or Owner walking in during lunch, making himself a coffee and eating his breakfast behind the counter and discussing the events of last night with his employees / buddies. Unprofessional and a bad example for the staff.
