The rather peculiar Korea Pavillon closed and has been replaced with the Brasserie Nestor. A nice touch was that they used the Rolling Stones concert as a backdrop for their opening party. The day I visited it was a sweltering 30° and unlike my days in Boys Scouts it wasn’t raining for Pentecost (Pfingsten) as it has in the last 3 decades I can remember. The menu I glance over looks pretty surprising. Simple dishes, all with very strong swiss roots (mainly Valaisanne products) but all have a little twist.
First a whitewine soup with rye bread croutons is served. Seldomly have I tasted a wine based soup which was so beautiful. Sparkly acidity, full flavour and perfect seasoning sends a strong message about the skill of the kitchen. Another dish which looked interesting was the main course, crespelle filled with leek, potatoes and saucisson. Again an interesting combination, nicely executed and full of flavour.
I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a new restaurant I strongly believe in, it echoes swiss traditions in an updated fashion, plays off the sports heritage in the neighborhood and does so with a flourish! Unlike other places which just opened this has a uniqueness and a strong emphasis on great food. My kind of place!
