Cantina La Lupe, Luisenstrasse, Zurich

What used to be the upscale burger, now seems to be the “real” Mexican restaurant. With multiple places popping up, it’s fair to spot a trend. The latest addition is Cantina La Lupe on Luisenstrasse (no homepage). Menu doesn’t look to different from other places, with some little twists added, but cleary distancing itself from the well-known “Tex-Mex” alternatives.
As in most better mexican restaurants, fresh condiments (pico de gallo, various salsas) are served, making all dishes significantly better. Multiple delicacies make it our way. A certain standout was the Quesadillo, once again I think I’ve discovered the perfect tortilla… simple dish, executed perfectly. Also the ceviche and the tacos pastor (pork and pineapple) left to desire. A special recommendation goes out to the Guacamole, fresh and creamy with a nice kick of spice towards the end. Once can clearly taste that the food is homemade, fresh and with a steady hand in the kitchen. I am still waiting for an upscale mexican restaurant to come to Zurich, but the Cantina La Lupe certainly is a welcomed addition for the casual dining folks.
