Accademia del Gusto, Rotwandstrasse, Zurich

Have you ever tried to get a table but couldn’t ? At the Accademia del Gusto it took me three tries, everytime I’d call towards the end of a week, they’d be sold out. This can mean two things, either food is fantastic or the Cervelat celebrities have declared it a favourite place to be. A rather large amouse bouche was served, with a nice roasted pepper on top.
First dish was a chick pea (Kichererbsen) soup with a simple prawn. Strong flavours, slightly weird presentation using some chopsticks and nicely cooked shrimp, it now started to dawn on me, why it’s hard to get a table here. They seem to be able to cook quite nicely. The brasato ravioli where well prepared and showed an impressive amount of craftmanship, personally we prefer a bit more oomph on the sauce. Main dish was a grilled veal paillard with potatoes. Again done with skill – a very solid dish.
So is the Accademia del Gusto possibly the best italian in town ? We’d rate it very highly, but we think there are others which have the edge, but it’s certainly a very nice place to go to. We didn’t see any Cervelat celebrities this night, except for one guy and he’s okay 🙂
