Behind the the Wöschi Wollishofen a new proprietor has opened up the Louis Restaurant overlooking the lake of Zurich. The lights are dimmed, the interior modern chic. The amount of ladies present is unusually high, mostly skinny and well-off it seems, the term “gold coast bitches” crosses the mind, but we quickly dismiss the thought.

The menu is not very exciting from a culinary perspective, but solid.
First dish where forest mushrooms which disappointed. The aromatics (tomatoes, rosemary) where to strong and completely masked the flavours. The main course however was lovely. The veal paillard had nice flavour and the leeks were fantastic in texture and taste. Dessert was disappointing again, three interpretations of passionfruit, very high in acidity and just not very well done.

The restaurant will do well, because it has something unique – nice view of the lake. Culinary-wise I think it’s got to fix some basic things to make it great. One example is that neither fish nor meat origin is noted on the menu. The waiter said it was from France and Ireland respectively which – if it’s true – is hard to understand why you’d truck in fish from France if you’re sitting on the shores of a lake. Prices are not cheap, but suitable for the type of establishment.
