2014 – Looking back

Upon popular request I was asked to do a review of 2014. I’ll spare you the details of statistics and dive right into it. I’ve looked at all the restaurants I’ve visited in 2014 and there was a surprise. It actually is the Santa Lucia in Wiedikon. Not a place I would normally frequent often one would think. But there are a two reasons. First of all, the Migros Wiedikon cleans and irons my Shirts. So virtually every Saturday the charming Mrs V at the dry cleaning / flower / customer service counter receives a plastic bag full of crumpled shirts. While I hand in my coupon to retrieve last weeks haul I usually let her know that it’ll be a few until I come back to retrieve them. Most of the time I get hungry and feel the need to grab lunch. I’ve given the Migros restaurant a try, but… well… you know.

So I sit at Santa Lucia Wiedikon and it is a surprisingly good lunch. The food’s fresh, especially the mixed salad is tasty, has a good mix of leaves and vegetables, nice dressing and the bread is fresh from the oven in the store. Pasta or Pizza are both good, not the fancy, schmancy Michelin star winning type, but strong flavors, decent ingredients and no frills. Also to complement the regular menu there’s always a daily and a monthly special selection which always has something interesting to choose from. I am skeptical of chain restaurants but the the Bindella group seems to do this right. One of the most compelling thing is the way that customer complaints are handled with – utmost professionalism. Even small things are remediated immediately and without a big fuss. This is a sign for good training and understanding what’s important in gastronomy.

So overall I have to admit and overcome my biases towards larger corporation, this one here is pretty good and as long as the Migros does my shirts, I’ll keep coming back for more. The other interesting thing I’ll talk about is an interesting culinary influenced date I had in 2014… more to come 🙂 (my press agent told me to use more Cliffhangers)
