Cafe du Bonheur, Bullingerplatz, Zurich

Great timing is everything! I grabbed a lunch/brunch at the Cafe du Bonheur at Bullingerplatz and it felt great. The sun was scorching, kids were playing in the water fountain, I got a table tucked away in the shade and the restaurant across the street had live music blaring over the almost traffic free street. It felt very mediterranean but well organized… what a way to get ready for the Cup Final (thank you FC Sion).
The brunch menu had some interesting items one being a poached egg served with a herb salad over a toasted baguette. Together with a small bread basket this made for a good start of the day. Herb salad and poached egg were good, the big complaint was the baguette. It was toasted too much and literally too crunchy to eat. After a few minutes of sawing I managed to break it into smaller pieces. On the upside was the coffee, a really nice non-bitter espresso!
The Cafe du Bonheur offers a great shady al fresco dining experience which is perfect for a lazy sunday. Sipping a coffee, reading the newspaper and gazing at the people sautering over Bullingerplatz feels very relaxing. Location is everything and makes one forget the overly crunchy baguettes 😉
