Brasserie Freilager, Freilagerstasse, Zürich

What does a great day look like? A perfect little lunch in between work to ease into the second half of the day with energy and a feeling of happiness. It seems that the Brasserie Freilager is on to this. Jumping right to the conclusion – my lunch was pricey, but fantastic. It took me a while to figure out where the entrance was, but once that was sorted, we got a table. The dining room seems to be the business hub of Albisrieden: a few suits, a few bottles of wine and a slightly less hipster crowd then downtown.
The connection to Atelier or Baerengasse is pretty straight-forward, it seems that Dieter Meiers Ojo de Agua is making its way across town. While there’s a bit of skepticism among some foodies about the general Dieter Meier style, there certainly is nothing to complain about his beef products. Before main course bread and some lobster butter was served – tasty and a nice little touch. The roast beef was spot-on, the pommes allumettes up to par, fun two see two great sauces (Bernaise and chimichurri), only downside was that the mix of vegetables was a tad too plain. Sitting there feels like it was worth travelling across town for a business meeting later in the afternoon.
To end the meal I decided on eating a scoop of sourcream ice-cream. The plate (including a small piece of decoration) was charged with 3 (three) swiss francs! I told the waitress, that this must have been a mistake, but she said no that’s the price. I was flabberghasted at how cheap that was, but it helped ease the price of the meal slightly. I’ll be back – not everyday, but every now and then.
