Gemischter Salat

Appenzeller Cordon bleu mit Spätzli

Taking the train to Wasserauen and marching about an hour (uphill, rather steep) you enter part of the Alpstein mountains. The Seealpsee is a small lake which has a couple of restaurants for hikers, bikers and other outdoor activists. The Berggasthaus Seealpsee oversees the lake and offers a simple, yet rustic cuisine. An ideal place to eat for a group of nine men. Starter was a mixed salad, no convenience food was, the salads were fresh and the sauces homemade. What more would you expect ? But the big surprise was the Cordon bleu with the spätzli. The Cordon bleu had a nice tang because it was Appenzeller cheese. Together with the tasty Spätzli this was a great dish – it really puts convenience gastronomy to shame, when a place up in the mountains can cook great fresh food, at a rather decent price for nine:
