Korner opened and is another burger place. I am having a feeling that developing Zurich’s gastronomy scene is rather simple, dine abroad, look for good ideas and import them. The interior is modern and shows a lot of restraint. The Menu fits a single page and focuses on burgers. To help in picking a burger we order some onion rings to assist in the selection process. Unfortunately they were more distracting than helpful. Underseasoned (especially lacking salt), overly greasing and also lacking crunch, I’m assuming these last two aspects go together. There’s a dozen or so burgers on the menu and I settled on the Almighty. The driver for my choice was gluttony and not a religious awakening, since this one sported two beef patties, double bacon and double cheese.

The meat was interesting, it was very finely minced and almost compressed to make a rather dense patty. I prefer coarser burgers with meat which is more loosely coupled. Everything else was pretty good from the custom made buns, the cheese & bacon and especially the Korner sauce. The side of cole slaw, while sporting nicely cut and crunchy cabbage & carrot slivers, had a sauce which wasn’t very good. It was lacking acid and had an almost creme fraiche like touch to it. Burgers are roughly 20-25 CHF (except the Almighty) and for a casual dinner for 6, it’s pretty okay when it comes to prices.

If you’re looking for the best burger in Zurich, I’d be aiming at combining the meat from Helvti Diner with the rest of the components from Korner. If you like the denser patties, you’ll do okay here.

  1. Very interesting, we are doing this burger tour to find the best burger in town… This establishment is just around the corner so I’ll give it a try! Keep on eating/writing, I love it!

  2. three cheers for gluttony!

  3. Just went there ourselves. Found the vegetarian option seriously lacking and thus quite overpriced. Shared our opinion w/ the manager so we’ll see if it improves. Then again, vegetarians aren’t exactly the majority of their clientele. Fries were great as was – as you said – the Korner sauce.

    • You’re asking for a vegetarian option at a burger place ? Really ?! You’re funny 🙂

    • You’re funny. Korner is a place for beef lovers. There are better places for vegetarians I guess.

      • nah, there’s something about sitting down to a burger that surpasses the simple ingredients of the dish. (obviously i realise i’m not the target clientele :)) btw places like gourmet burger kitchen in london have some really amazing vegetarian options.

  4. We just ate lunch there, I was very distracted by everybody eating their burgers with forks and knives. What is up with that?

    • Well – the Almighty needs to be split in half with a knife to be eaten by hand, but otherwise not sure ? Lack of self-confidence when lovely Korner sauce trickles down the side of your wrist ?

  5. We went there and had lunch today. The restaurant is very nicely decorated but that was all. The burger buns were spongy, the meat was half raw (we were not asked how well cooked we wanted it) and the fries were soaked in grease. There is absolutely no comparison to the Helvti Diner I must admit, which is well out of reach for Korner. We gave it a chance although our hopes were high it could not live up to our expectations. Nevertheless the menu per se would be quite interesting (variety of burgers) and as said, the ambiance is really cool.
