My dearly loved readers, have noticed that my vehicle of chocie is a 125cc scooter. While having great advantages in the inner cities, it is somewhat of pain to ride the Autobahn with a 110 km/h and constantly being overtaken. So while driving from Zurich to Laax, I decide to to a bit of mountain road driving and headed to a place called Alpenrösli. You swerve of the main road in Mollis on your way to Kerenzberg and a short and exciting drive up the mountain, takes you to the restaurant. Not knowing what to expect I enter the place and look forward to a lunch in the middle of my journey.

The menu actually sounds pretty decent and the chef seems like he knows what he’s doing. I start with a Ziger (special herb cheese from Glarus) foam soup, which is pretty spectacular. Quite frankly I wasn’t expecting such a refined dish up here in the middle of nowhere. The Ziger taste was clear and sharp, nicely contrasted by the bits of fried onion bobbing around. My main continued in the same fashion, some classic Zigerhörnli, kind of the Mac and Cheese from Glarus. Simple, yet nicely presented, even the edible flower in the small tomato added taste and not just color to the dish. I really liked the presentation since it was without frills, yet still showed an artistic quality. The Ziger mill was made available, so I could add Ziger to my heart’s delight. I’d also like to call out that for a place in the middle of nowhere, the prices were extremly fair, the whole meal cost less than 40 CHF including drinks (no alcohol since I still had to drive to Chur on the Autobahn).
