Freudenhaus newly opened on Zollikerstrasse and flaunts an austrian influenced menu. Since Freundenhaus is equivalent to brothel in german, googling the restaurant leads to some interesting results. The menu is interesting and it can be difficult to make up your mind on what exactly you want to get for dinner. The salad of boiled beef (Tafelspitzsalat) is nice, maybe the red onions a tad too harsh on the dish, but clever idea of making salad appealing for the meat lovers.

Of course the Wiener Schnitzel is considered as the stereotypical austrian classic and to cut right to the chase, it’s done pretty darn good at the Freudenhaus. The breading seperates itself nicely from the ever so thin slab of meat, making it a joy to devour. Potato salad is one of the staple dishes of many a mother cooking, so your mileage will vary on the rendition at Freundenhaus. It’s a very simple plain one, maybe just a tad too plain for some people’s taste.

For Wiener Schnitzel you can’t go wrong here, and some of the other dishes look very promising on the menu as well. Clearly a restaurant which is run by an owner which takes care in his handiwork and would like the guests to have a good dining experience. Oh yes and the owner is my type of guy – he smoked a cigarette after he had locked the door at the bar, just the way it should be.
