Wandering around leads to discoveries. I headed to Kreis 6 and ended up in a Pizzeria called Corallo. At first the place looks a tad rund-down, a more friendly way to put it is patina. I have a small flashback to restaurants you’d see in some of the Columbo episodes. The place is more than half-full (on a Tuesday night in early January), which is rather surprising. I start with some tasty homemade taglierini, nice bite, the pesto wasn’t quite as umami as I hoped, but a good, strong dish and so not what you would expect when walking into the restaurant.

I love the combination of pasta and pizza. One of the intersting side effects is that it helps iron out any wrinkles between my stomach muscles. AThe Pizza Napoli that followed impressed. Thin and crunchy dough on the outside, slightly softer on the inside, well seasoned, just a very good Pizza. Often Pizzerias serve stuff from an engros food retailer, sprinkle it with oregano, which is a bad copy of what was once intended. The Corallo is a perfect example why you can’t judge a book by its cover. It sports a best-days-gone-by charm, has great food at very reasonable prices. This is what an Osteria or Trattoria should be like.

  1. good to hear we should try it a second time it being our local italian restaurant! at our first attempt bruschetta was nice, scaloppine al limone as well – just the risotto served as a side made us wondering… no real risotto rice and appently the cooked tried to fake it by adding milk to normal rice. With sugar and cinnamon it would have been a nice dessert!
