Zurich dating dining advice gone wrong, theinnercircle.co

Every now and then I get email, most of it fascinating press releases. One of the best one was an invite to meet some marketing director from Starbucks to talk about Frappucino Drinks. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to spend my time than engaging in dialogue on Frappucinos, unfortunately I had things to do and places to go exactly that day.
So a few days I get an interesting email from a dating web site. Apparently on Tinder you only meet shmucks and dorks (so I’ve heard), but theinnercircle.co has solved this issue. By having a carefully curated group of “the elite, from hip creatives to corporate high flyers” you’re getting rid of the riffraff or in other words “The Inner circle is an online dating site with the goal to connect inspiring ambitious singles around the globe.”
Anyway I was also sent this “infographic” and was told “If you would like to place the infographic on therealpickygourmet.com, feel free! We would love to see it online.” So here goes:
According to the press release the restaurants were selected by 5000 people which are from Zurich’s community of this website. This is slightly different from the 2000 mentioned on the flyer, but who are we to judge.
The places crowd-sourced from the community are the 1. Hiltl, 2. George Bar and Grill, 3. Fischer’s Fritz, 4. Loft Five 5. Maison Blunt. After having looked at this list slightly puzzled – it finally dawned on me. The inspring & ambitious members of theinnercircle.co elite dating community must be people who couldn’t get a match on Tinder! It’s so obvious – with this selection of dining options nobody wants to go on a date with you.
Maison Blunt does a decent brunch on Sundays, but low seats and the packed nature of the place will have your neighbor eavesdropping on you.
Loft Five’s food didn’t convince us and if someone is taking you to dinner in a gentrified now-office-block neighborhood with a 30 meter walk to the train back home… not sure that’s a classy message to send.
Fischer’s Fritz has you sitting on a bench with other people. Great with friends in summer, bad with dates.
George Bar and Grill is the best choice on this list – still the last time I ate here was with my golden aged aunt & uncle – not your typical dating target group.
Hiltl – really ? You’d want to date a vegetarian or even worse a vegan ? Lack of vitamin B12 will threaten the health of your potential offspring, shows an inclination towards the esoteric and worst of all is a sure sign for being fussy. One day I’ll tell you the story of how using the wrong stock (beef instead of vegetable) once got me into hot water with a not-for-life companion. But there is one great redeeming quality – if the date’s not working for you – maybe you can hit on someone else while filling your plate at the buffet. In all fairness – food isn’t bad at the Hiltl, I’d just see it more as a restaurant I’d go to after 5 years of a relationship…

Oh, boy I had fun reading this. Such an amusing post, thanks. But seriously, I would love to have heard what would the Starbucks guy have told you on that Frapuccino meeting 😀

I usually don’t post comments or anything – I’m one of your “silent” readers. But this amusing read just cracked me up a lot! I browsed through the “ooh so hipp”-Locations before reading your article and said to myself: Are you kidding me?”… 😉 Btw. You totally nailed it with the “inclination towards the esoteric”. ! 🙂
Anyways – glad we’re on the same page, not just food wise!
Cheers

I’m one of the “silent” writers here – so I guess we’re a match made in heaven 😉 Thanks for the compliments.

A long overdue takedown of Hiltl, thank you. I think the motivation for putting it on the list is somewhat non-food related but that’s another discussion, still a slap in the face of all the great restaurants in Zurich that are apparently not date-worthy.
I’m surprised the most overrated and overdone bar/restaurant, Terrasse, didn’t make this fabulous list.

“You’d want to date a vegetarian or even worse a vegan ?” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vegans
Did you actually write this? Seriously? How uncivilized are we? So it would be uninteresting and boring to date Einstein? And if you try to claim wit, there is no humor to be found in your comments. It’s only shallow and disturbing.

Have you ever tried to live with someone who throws a tantrum when you use beef stock for a meal eg. in a sauce ?

Oh but the foot at Maison Blunt is great! I would definitly go there on a date – sharing a big platter of mezze seems quite romantic to me! Sure, you should check with your date if they like the oriental touch…
