    Burrito al Pastor

After the interview on tsüri.ch I got a mail from the lady running the Peddler shop on Kalkbreitestrasse. She said that she only uses freshly cooked ingredients and prepares them every day for her burritos. Naturally I decided to try this anonymously.

The day of the test, there was a 15 minute wait until the burrito was ready. Not only was there a small line, but the rice had run out and she didn’t want to serve it undercooked, hence everyone had to wait. Interesting to see that no one complained – everyone in the line was happy to wait. The burrito was filled with (very freshly cooked) rice, beans, chilli, some sauce (Pico de Gallo?), sour cream & pork meat with pineapple. Biting into the slightly messy burrito was a delight. Fresh & bright flavors – it’s clear – someone is showing a whole lot of love while cooking. The pineapple and the pico de gallo add sweetness and acidity making this a very tasty meal!

A place where people happily wait 15 minutes without complaint seems to be safe bet. The only advice is to go there rather early, due to the fact that they cook everything fresh on a daily basis – they were running low on supplies at 12:30 and seem to sell out often. My new secret lunch spot.
