Ever wonder where I get my inspiration ? A fellow blogger writes about hiking and this article about the best Gerstensuppe caught my eye. I decided to take the train to Filisur and hike to Monstein, following this description. Arriving at RhB station Monstein, there was no Veltlinerstübli insight. Checking my iPhone I realize that the actual village is another hour’s foot march away.

Suddenly a post bus appears and thinking this was my chance to void hiking the 60 minutes to the Gerstensuppe of my dreams. To my dismay I end up in a place called Davos Glaris which is even farther away. Scouting the restaurant situation online I decide on dining at a place called Restaurant Spina. Another forced uphill march (I chose a cross country direct route of approach) got me there in 20 minutes. Finally I was sitting in a restaurant. I liked the claim that they even make their pasta & cakes themselves. I had the pappardelle with summer vegetables, a saffron sauce and thin slices of local veal. The pasta was homemade, all of the vegetables tastes just the way they should and the subtle saffron elevated the dish. The small criticism would concern the baby corn and the aceto drizzle, I would have left them off.

Still it was a good ending to a not-so-straight-forward hike and a bit of straying around it was a nice place for lunch. I will however try to find the other restaurant and try that soup…
