The Street Food Festival is running a food truck edition at Hardturm. While my heart bleeds, that Zurich is still missing a proper football stadium, at least a good 50 or so food trucks is a nice little diversion. We’ll cut right to the chase. As always the biggest disappointment is that I’m not able to taste every offering and that the Pastrelmi guy is missing.

The best thing this year was a Grilled Cheese Reuben from the J Kinski food truck. The idea of slicing the toast into two pieces, packing the cheese in between those slivers and using the thin grilled cheese as a base to make a Reuben sandwich was brilliant. Succulent meat, a a kick of acid with the cucumber and carrots and a russian sauce which had that nice tang. Slightly unusual, well executed and a very friendly guy explaining all the details while you waited for the sandwich to finish grilling.

An honorable mention goes out to – I dare say – a vegetarian dish. Wesley’s kitchen seems to have a vegetarian offspring and was selling a kind of tempura. A tartare sauce on the bottom, a heap of tasty & crunchy vegetables and a sweet drizzle completed this dish. The only downside is the African stall next door grilling meat on an open flame: You will get smoked while waiting in line. But hey… hard-core vegetarians are like Jehova’s witnesses, happy to take a beating while toiling for the eternal good.
