Near Bahnhof Wiedikon Freyas Sommer is a pretty lovely little spot for city slickers which are staying home during summer holidays. Zurich is beautiful and as soon as vacations starts, trams start to be half-empty, traffic is lighter and it just feels as if more of the city is truly yours. So: before flying to an exotic location to roast on a beach and grab “authentic” local food off the hotel’s all-you-can-eat buffet – think twice!

The little patio overlooking the very urban bus and tram stop, is tucked away by some shrubs of greenery to give it a more intimate feeling. And it acutally works! It’s packed, the vibe is great and on this particular hot summer evening it feels a little bit like being on vacation. The chicken calf skewer has tons of flavor, the hummus is earthy and deep, the bread with the sesame a great match to scoop up whatever you like. The only thing that really didn’t work was the Pulpo Ceviche, the star anise is weird, the dish doesn’t really fit into the other plates on the menu and the strong acid masks the (cooked) pulpo completely. The fries and the cauliflower could both do with a bit more love.

Prices are reasonable most plates will set you back approx 10 CHF. We had a great evening and I’m keen to see what happens with Freyas Sommer after the summer.
